Analyze a Classmates Post

So im reading one of my classmates post, More money for the wrongly convicted. Now it is awful for anyone to be wrongfully accused and put in jail for something they did not commit. But these people were tried and charged by a group of their peers. These wrongfully convicted aren't just some average joe taken away from their homes or streets and tried. No, these people have some sort of connection to the crime in which they are being charged with. The best way to not be wrongly convicted is well, to keep your butt out of trouble. I just think throwing more money to these people is the wrong way to go about it. We need to take that money and put it to good use. We can use it to get better methods and equipment so these people want even become a suspect to the crime. Why should tax payers have to fork over more money to pay these people that couldn't seem to keep themselves out of trouble? And my god to give them 120 hours of college tuition and health insurance. Wow there are people that fought for this country and dint even get that. But yet you want to give it to someone that for some reason became a suspect in a crime, then was charged by their peers in the court of law. Oh and don't forget about the $80,000 for every year in.
So im just saying SH** happens. All we can do is better improve the system we have and get these people out of our prisons. Forking over all these money to people that put themselves into these situations is just the wrong route to take.

Guns on campus, Yes? No?

So I'm reading this article about a Bill they want passed to allow guns on campus. Now everyone needs to take it easy. When we hear those two words, guns and campus together, everyone gets all in a frenzy. Now there is absolutely no freakin way the Texas government would allow just any old Joe or Jane going to college to carry a gun. Now come on, I hope there is more faith in our government then that.
I can completely understand people who oppose this bill. They see what happen at Columbine and most recently Virgina Tech and well, they shake their heads without even a thought. I also know that the opposing side will say ,"What are we paying campus police for"? As we all saw with VT there were police in and around but there just isn't enough police to cover such a massive campus. Also no doubt that a lack of training played a huge part in this catastrophic event as well.
As a person for this Bill I'm not saying make handguns a basic requirement just like your textbook. No I'm not saying that at all. Just like any law there will need to be set standards and guidelines. I would go so far as to maybe give physiological evaluations to the possible candidates. There are many well trained, and very well qualified personal on campuses today able to carry weapons. We have thousands of police officers and military, veterans or current, on campuses as students every day. Most more then qualified to carry handguns onto school grounds to help prevent another massacre. Now see that's the big word, "prevent'. Don't you think if someone decides to go onto a Texas campus to cause harm to the student body and faculty, that the first thing that would come to mind would be the fact that there are possibly hundreds if not thousands of guns on the premises. Not to mention that these will be well trained students with the knowledge and know how on how to react to a situation like this. I spent years in the army as a military police officer learning special skills and tactics on how to react to different situations. And I know if something like VT went on in my school, I would wish I had a weapon so I would be able to assist and save lives.
So before everyone lights up their torches, grabs a pitch fork and starts marching on the state capital, just sit back and really think about it. Like I said, we have well trained military and police officers currently attending public schools. Lets utilize them in order to keep the school safe from a bloody, tragic killing spree.

Analyze a Classmates Post

After reading this post, Are Sobriety Checkpoints the only way? it got me thinking. Sure checkpoints aren't the only way but they sure are a really good deterrent. Having been a police officer in the military we use these on a regular bases and have seen local police departments use them as well.
My classmate brings up all these stats on how checkpoints are finding other things more often then drunks. So? Is that not another good thing to get off the streets? I have seen these be a very effective tool in catching drugs and even warrants.
If you go to a bar with some friends and you know that there is a great possibility that you could hit a checkpoint wouldn't that make you think twice about getting into that car even if you had one? I know it would me. I mean if the checkpoint was doing what it was suppose to do and prevent and catch drunk drivers, would you really be arresting a lot of them? So maybe that is why there are so very few drunks being caught at these things. It is preventing people from driving on the roads while intoxicated. I'm just saying don't be so quick to judge sobriety checkpoints just because it has that sobriety word before it. They serve a much greater purpose.
So I say if the city or state wants to do these Sobriety Checkpoints bring them on. We have police driving around every second of every day, might as well bring the crime to them.

Border Security, What should we do??

People have long debated what we should do with the borders of the United States, to my surprise many just do not care. The United States government has disgusted me with how they have handled this crisis. They pretty much just have ignored it for years. The border between the U.S and Mexico can easily be classified as a war zone. With all the drugs, weapons, and even women being brought back and forth to be sold is bound to cause fights between seller and buyer. Not to mention the drug cartels committing atrocities just over the border. And of course the countless number of illegal immigrants crossing into the United States every single day.
Our problem here is two countries closing their eyes while things like this happen. Why would Mexico stop it, all the money that's being sent back to their country from workers in the U.S. In 2006 there were 29 confirmed border incursions by Mexican government officials. In 2008 soldiers from the Mexican military crossed over into Arizona and held a border patrol agent at gun point. YES IN ARIZONA!! Can you say act of WAR! States are so afraid to do anything because they are afraid that their high Mexican populated cities would rise against the government and cause havoc. Who cares? Call in the national guard and take care of the problem. I really truly believe that Mexican-Americans don't want illegal Mexicans here.
Something must be done.
We need to open our eyes and see the problem for what it is and not worry about who may or may not vote for me. Last time I checked illegal immigrants can't vote. Let's put an end to the madness. Until the federal government can find out what the hell they are going to do lets send the worlds finest military down to our borders, build a wall and lets crush this war.

Who's right about the border: Perry or Obama?

In short, this blog is about Texas Governor Rick Perry and President Obama's method on how to handle our countries border security. Governor Perry wants military to be placed onto the border were President Obama would like there to be more federal agents, among other things. The writer of this blog, William McKenzie, has spent 12 years in Washington D.C and is now writing an online discussion board called, Texas Faith for the Dallas Morning news.
Being a blog McKenzie is giving his readers his opinion on who has a better strategy when it comes to the Texas border. He makes some really good points on why he believes Obama's strategy is best but leaves out some very important reasons on why the Governor's thinks his approach is better. The writer also did not give many reasons on why the Presidents approach is the best for our country. There are many more differences about the border between these two besides troops or agents.
Sure more border patrol agents would be the ideal way to handle this but that takes time for training and also willing personal to join the agency. We have a well standing well trained military able to be on the border in a very short about of time. He leaves out the fact that this is one states way of handling this issue and that's all Governor Perry is concerned with. The federal government has had years to deal with this huge problem with our countries safety and security and to be part of a state that is willing to step up to the plate and try to get it fixed is a nice site to see.

And so Austin libraries grow even quieter

You have got to be kidding me! The author of this Austin American Stateman article must be the only person on earth that could really care about this while our economy is taking a tumble for the worse. I mean crying about budget cuts to our libraries. Then has the audacity to say that our police and fire departments should take budget cuts too! Sure if our emergency services can save money in certain areas without causing strain they should do so. With our economy being in such turmoil people could be forced into taking drastic measures to get what they want and need. Also with all the added stress on household budgets there will be more spousal abuse and maybe even suicides. We need our police and fire departments at the top of their game. Looks to me the only argument this author is using is that people need the libraries to look up much needed jobs. Right, because there are no other places in this city that you are able to look for jobs. With pretty much everyone having access to the internet, libraries are not really that important anymore. You can find anything you need on the internet, including jobs. More then you could ever find in any public library. I say close our libraries if that means a safer city for our children to live in. Shame on this author to put the needs of the libraries ahead of our cites safety.

Dallas County to vote on withholding vehicle registrations for those who owe fines

So I was reading this article and wondering why we as a state haven't been doing this to start with. Dallas County commissioners will be voting today for a new program to go into affect. If you owe money for any unpaid misdemeanor citations, the program will put a block so you can not get your vehicle registration up to date until you pay the fines or fees. It seems that in Dallas County alone there are a whopping $210 million in unpaid misdemeanor citations alone. El Paso County was the first county in Texas to have used it and since 1997 they have already collected about 2 million in unpaid fees. Having been in law enforcement I think this is a great idea and wish that all counties in Texas would make this law as soon as possible. It would free up the criminal justice system and not only save officers time but would save counties a lot of money. I posted this blog because this could affect all of us in living in this state at one point in time. Since our local governments are feeling this hard economy in their budgets they could start to implement this to help get those much need dollars.
